Glen Grant Tartan
In 1820, James Grant took part in the "Raid on Elgin", the last clan rising in Scottish history. The story goes that the men of Clan Grant were incensed to hear that their clan chief and his family were being held under virtual house arrest by the lowland Elgin mob. Around 700 men of Clan Grant, armed with sticks and clubs, marched on the city from Strathspey to release their clan chief.
The citizens of Elgin were no match for the Highlanders, who marched directly into the city in military order, with pipers playing, causing the citizens to flee. James Grant was amongst the 700 clansmen, wearing a waistcoat made with tartan by Wilson’s of Bannockburn in 1819. It has since been handed down through the generations and today is proudly displayed at the distillery.
